The Start

"A good traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving".
Lao Tzu

I start this blog to talk poetry. A love of poetry sustains me through the banality of corporate life. Meetings that go on and on and people who love the sound of their own voices! How to make things complicated and how to dehumanize individuals.. this seems to be the mantra here.

Anyway, not to turn this into a cribbing session. I love poetry and I think all forms of Art give us the opportunity to stay unique and essentially human in the midst of such pressure to conform.

I start with a favorite of mine. This is one by Rilke but not one of the 'famous' ones.. The theme here is love and 'the concept of the one who did not come'.

Blank Joy

She who did not come, wasn't she determined
Nonetheless to organize and decorate my heart?
If we had to exist to become the one we love,
What would the heart have to create?

Lovely joy, left blank, perhaps you are
The center of all my labor and my loves.
If I've wept for you so much, it's because
I've preferred you among so many outlined joys.

Rainer Maria Rilke

I will follow up with another one tomorrow (?) with details of the poet and why I love the poems selected.
